A ceremony of nursing stripes awarding
A professional ceremony when a velvet, 1 cm wide ribbon was placed horizontally or vertically along a nursing cap’s facing, referring to a history of stripes as signs of high quality care.
- 1636 – first velvet collars and chains, prototypes of a cap’s stripe
- A narrow stripe along facing given half year before graduation in the Warsaw Nursing School
- 1961 – first ceremonies, 3 stripes introduced in nursing secondary schools (according to Jadwiga Kaniewska-Iżycka)
- 2002/2003 – probably last ceremonies, regarding ending of post-secondary nursing education
